Wayne Sorenson

Wayne Sorenson, 50, of Aberdeen, SD, died Wednesday, March 30, at Sanford Medical, Fargo, ND.

Wayne was born December 9, 1971, to Joe Finkey and Linda Pierce, in Scotts Bluff, NE.  At age 11, he moved to Edgemont, SD where he lived with his Aunt Wanda. At age 12 he and his brother Michael joined Jeff Sorenson, who adopted Wayne in 1986.

They moved to Aberdeen where Wayne attended school and wrestled for Aberdeen Central High School, placing in the state tournament his junior and senior years. After graduating in 1990, Wayne attended NSU and joined the wrestling team. He then went to Presentation College for nursing.

Wayne met Mishel Burger in 1993 and they were married on August 18, 1995, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown. They moved to Mellette, SD, where they made their home. Wayne and Mishel were married for just shy of 18 years and were blessed with three children; Skylar, Chelsea, and Talin.

Wayne worked for BAE in Aberdeen for 26 years. He was a shop tech fulfilling roles as a welder, painter and served as a team leader. In 2013, Wayne moved into Aberdeen.

Wayne was a huge 49ers fan. He enjoyed playing darts and pool and was in tournaments for both. Wayne liked hunting and was an avid fisherman. Most of all, Wayne loved spending time with his children, family and friends. He was an excellent dancer and karaoke singer! He loved cooking for others and his smile and laughter were contagious. He was a beloved Uncle, sharing his knowledge of fishing amongst other things. He loved fiercely and fearlessly.

Grateful for having shared Wayne’s life are his children: Skylar (Bailey) Sorenson, Chelsea (Melissa) Sorenson and Talin (Lilly Dinger) Sorenson; his parents, Jeff and Siri Sorenson; his siblings: Russell (Grace) Finkey, Lanny (Iris) Finkey, Carol Bussinger, Marina Finkey, Gelinda Halle, Michael Sorenson, Larry (Ariel) Finkey, Aaron (Wendie) Finkey, Anna (Mark John Vandersnick) Sorenson and Jorey Sorenson; his grandparents: Oliver and Carol Sorenson; his best friend: Mishel Burger; his special friend: Pam Evans; many loving nieces and nephews and Aunts and Uncles.

Preceding Wayne in death are his maternal grandparents: Milford and Alice Pierce; his paternal grandparents: Joe, Sr. and Marie Finkey; birth mother, Linda Pierce; his father- and mother-in-law: Dennis and Bernadette Burger; and three grandbabies.
