Vera Deyo


Vera Jane Deyo, 90, of Aberdeen, SD, died Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Fairway View Senior Community in Ortonville, MN.
Vera Jane Prose was born July 10, 1932, in Wolsey, SD, to Lowell Simpson & Flora Lucille (Brown) Prose. She attended school in Wolsey and graduated in 1950. Vera was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She moved to Huron, SD, May 17, 1950, and worked for Schwartz Drug Store.
She married Norman Eugene Deyo in 1952 and joined the Methodist Church. They continued to live in Huron until 1958. They lived in several cities including Sioux Falls, SD, Madison, WI, Aberdeen, SD, Worland WY, and Grand Forks, ND. After Norman’s retirement from the Federal Government, they moved back to Aberdeen.
Vera was a member of NARFE. She was involved in the church doing childcare for Mother’s Day and volunteered on projects improving the church. Vera also volunteered at the Aberdeen Community Theatre painting set pieces. She loved the outdoors. Vera enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.
Grateful for having shared Vera’s life are her children: Douglas (Darlene) Deyo, Sandra (George P.) Sullivan, and Michael (Sherry) Deyo; grandchildren: Juli (Brian) Schultz, Marschal, Daniel, Bret, and Katherine; step grandchildren: Jason (Loretta) Gibbs and Tami (Paul) Racey; seven great-grandchildren and five step great- grandchildren.
Preceding Vera in death are her husband, Norman Deyo; parents Lowell Simpson & Flora Lucille Prose; granddaughter Patricia; sisters: Evon Prose, Wava Busch, and Ruth Norton.
