Sharon I. Engelhart-Ham

Sharon Ione Engelhart Ham, 84, of Frederick, SD, died Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen, SD.

Sharon Ione Dennert was born November 18, 1939, to Stanley and Thelma (Griffith) Dennert in Aberdeen, SD. She attended a country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Barnard High School.

Sharon met Dale Engelhart in high school and married him on October 31, 1956. They lived in Spokane, WA, before moving back to the family farm. They raised their five children there, where she was a homemaker and helped with hauling grain. She was a member of the Barnard Church and played piano and organ her whole life. She had a strong faith and was active in church, coordinating Sunday school and other events. They moved to Frederick in 2002. Dale became ill and passed away in 2014. Sharon married LeRoy Ham on March 7, 2015, in Aberdeen, SD. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Frederick until the time of her death.

Sharon enjoyed crocheting, making baby blankets, reading and flowers. She loved visiting with friends and family while camping on Elm Lake. She compiled information for the museum in Frederick and did ceramics with friends on Wednesdays.

She enjoyed making homemade chocolate ice cream with Kenny and Billie Ham. Sharon and Betty Heman often played piano duets. She was a skilled book worker and shared her knowledge with her daughters-in-law.

Grateful for having shared Sharon’s life are her husband LeRoy Ham; her children: Steven Engelhart, Calli (Frank) Bunke, Darren (Heidi) Engelhart, and Troy (Karla) Engelhart; grandchildren: Michael (Kari) Bunke, Aaron Bunke, Nathan Bunke, Luke (Sasha) Bunke, Zach (Emily) Engelhart, Jordan (Lexi) Engelhart, Spencer (Kelsea) Engelhart, Jazmin Engelhart, Timothy (Hailey) Engelhart, Collin Engelhart, Leon Voeller, and Jared Voeller; great-grandchildren: Alexandria, Kamali, Mackenzie, and Arianna Bunke, Jordan Grieben, Wendy Bunke, Armie, Emilyn, Evie, Aubrey, Ella, Greyson, Remi, Brooklyn, Rhett, and Natalie Engelhart, Hunter (Morgan), Paige, and Payton Nilson; great-great grandchild: Waylon Nilson; one brother, Keith Dennert; and LeRoy’s children: Diana (Marlin) Kirschenman, Larry (Linda) Ham, Marcia (Glen) Hopkins, and Kevin (Lisa) Ham.

Preceding Sharon in death are her first husband, Dale Engelhart, daughter Carla Voeller, and granddaughter Brittany Engelhart.
