Ruby V. Thompson

Ruby Verna Pietz was born on August 19, 1930, to Daniel and Margaret (Schiermeister) Pietz at rural Roscoe, SD. As a child her family moved to a farm near Loyalton, SD. Ruby grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Her teacher stayed at their farm during the school year.
Ruby met William ‘Bill’ Thompson in the Loyalton area, and they were united in marriage on November 24, 1951, at Billings, MT. They moved to Ruby’s family farm and took over the operation. Ruby always had a huge garden and canned much of her produce. She was famous for her “Grandma Ruby jelly”. She milked the cows, raised chickens and helped Bill on the farm. They continued to make the farm their home until moving to Aberdeen in 1987.
Ruby was very proud of their farm. She loved to sew and made many quilts by hand and gave them away as gifts. Doing word search puzzles and playing cards with her grandchildren were favorite pastimes of hers.
Grateful for having shared Ruby’s life are her children: Ronald (Kathy) Thompson and Debra Crompton; her grandchildren: Jennifer (Tony) Glines, Carrie (Aaron) DeLaughter, Daron (Shawna) Munro, Jessica (Brian) Black, Amanda (Bryan) Treloar, Linda Roesch and Jeffrey Roesch; one sister Arlene Stratton; her sisters-in-law: Emilie Pietz and Beverly Pietz; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Ruby in death are her parents, Daniel and Margaret, her husband Bill, her daughter Carol Roesch, brothers: Milton Pietz and Elmer Pietz; and step siblings: Irene Schlepp, Harold Pietz, and Leona Washam.
