Roland Walter Haar, 86, of Aberdeen, died May 25, 2022, at his home.

Roland Walter Haar, son of Walter and Rosina (Kranzler) Haar was born June 8, 1935, on the family homestead south of Bowdle, SD. He began his schooling in this area. At the age of 12, his family moved to Aberdeen where he completed his education.

Roland was united in marriage to Marlene Heyne on February 21, 1953, in Bowdle. SD. They moved to Mobridge where he did ranch work for a short time. They soon returned to the Aberdeen and northeast South Dakota area where they lived in several places, and he held various jobs. Roland attended and graduated from Auctioneer School in Iowa. In 1959, he worked a few months general construction before starting in plumbing at Redlinger Brothers Plumbing, Risager Plumbing as foreman, and later for his son Rory, at Haar Plumbing. He retired from the plumbing business at 70 years old and began a new career working for his son, Kary at Cardinal Tool as a Maintenance Engineer. Roland retired in 2021.

Roland loved his horses and at one time had 150 with his friend Perry Pitz. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and a former member of Jim River Riders and Aberdeen Area Horsemen’s Association.

Grateful for having shared Roland’s life are his children, Rory (Kathy) Haar, Dean (Gaylene) Haar and Kary (LeaAnn) Haar, all of Aberdeen; Lisa (Glenn) Evenson of Marion, SD; Paul (Jody) Haar and Stacy (Chris) Serr, both of Aberdeen; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and sister, Gertie Hopfinger of Aberdeen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marlene (11-27-2015), daughter, Amy Alsleben (7-27-2017) and eight brothers and sisters.
