Melvin ‘Mel’ Mullner, 86, of Aberdeen, SD, died Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.

Melvin ‘Mel’ Jay Mullner and his twin, Mervin, were born September 11, 1936, to Joseph and Francis (Grieben) Mullner in Westport, SD. He grew up on the farm and attended school in Barnard, graduating with the class of 1955.

He entered the Army and was stationed at Fort Devens in Massachusetts. He returned to farming until May 26, 1978, when Mel married Martha Zimmerman Wolf in Aberdeen, where they made their home.

Mel worked at KO Lee, Hub City Iron and for sixteen years as a greeter for Walmart before retiring. He enjoyed going to the casino, watching the Twins and metal detecting. He also liked fishing and hunting. Mel was a farmer at heart and had a good sense of humor. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared Mel’s life are his wife, Martha Mullner; children: Peggy (Albert) Wellman, Karen Wolf, Vicki (David) Glenn, and Carol (Jim) Tellekson; grandchildren: Darcy (Jared) Steinberg, Jennifer Glenn, Mike (Chelsea) Glenn, and Steven Tellekson; great-grandchildren: Lily and Liam Steinberg; siblings: Duane (Della) Mullner, Phyllis Gorne, Bonnie Johnson; nieces and nephews.

Preceding Mel in death are his parents Joseph & France Mullner; his twin brother Mervin and sister Irene Zoellner.
