Loretta Podoll


Loretta died Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Loretta was born on July 28, 1934, to Emil and Otellia (Geist) Aman in Aberdeen, SD. She graduated from Central High School in 1952.
Loretta married Darwin “Dub” Podoll on May 2, 1954. They lived in Norfolk, VA, during his time serving in the Navy. After he was discharged in 1955, they moved to Aberdeen and started a family. In 1959 they moved to Westport and added to their family. Loretta was a stay-at-home mom until she started working at Gibson’s. She worked there from 1969 until 1978, when she began working at 3M. She continued to work for 3M until she retired in 1997. While she was working at 3M, Loretta and Dub moved the family home to Mina Lake, SD. They then moved to Ipswich, SD, and eventually settled in Aberdeen.
Loretta enjoyed working in her garden and growing various types of plants and flowers in the summertime. To pass the cold winter months, she enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends. She and her husband were members of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, SD.
Grateful for having shared Loretta’s life are her son, Monte Podoll, daughter, Leslie Podoll, brother, Verlyn “Vern” Aman, and sister, Arleen Knoll.
Preceding Loretta in death are her parents, Emil and Otellia Aman, husband, Darwin “Dub” Podoll, son, Randal “Randy” Podoll, and sister, Delores Sandmeier.
