Larry V. Jurgens, 76, of Aberdeen, SD, died Monday, March 9, 2026 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.

Larry Vincent Jurgens was born October 10, 1949, to Vincent and Mildred (Vail) Jurgens in Milbank, South Dakota. He grew up and attended school in Milbank, graduating from Milbank High School in 1967. He later attended South Dakota State University before moving to Aberdeen, where he worked at Cambell’s Town & Country Lumber and met the love of his life, Kaye Foley. They were married on October 22, 1977.

Larry and Kaye built their life in Aberdeen and later welcomed two children, Jessica and Chad.

Larry worked for De Smet Farm Mutual and Dakota Claims before starting his own business in 2002. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Aberdeen Rural Fire Department for nearly 15 years.

In 2010, Larry and Kaye became snowbirds and began spending their winters at their home in Arizona. They were blessed with wonderful friends and neighbors in their community that really felt like family. Kaye passed away in April 2022.

A selfless soul, Larry always made time for family and many who were lucky enough to call him a friend. Those close to him always enjoyed his great wit and sense of humor. Incredibly artistic, and with a passion for woodworking, he shared his incredible works of art with the world, including a “passion project” (and painfully intricate, although he was never one to complain…) wooden soccer ball for his grandson which would become his final masterpiece. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping (in the earlier years) and tinkering with cars and Willy’s Jeeps. His greatest joy came from spending time with his late wife Kaye, children, grandchildren and beloved dogs. To his family, Larry was the one they called for everything, someone who could always figure it out and be counted on.

Grateful for having shared Larry’s life are his children: Jessica (Chase) Schmitt of Denver, CO, and Chad (Jennifer) Jurgens of Aberdeen; grandchildren: Ariana, Avery, and Anders Schmitt; Mason and Morgan Jurgens; sister: Judy Jurgens; and many nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Mildred Jurgens, and his wife, Kaye Jurgens.
