John "Jack" Ness

John "Jack" A. Ness, 76, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor, after a long battle with cancer.

John “Jack” Ness was born on September 21, 1949, in Webster, SD, to Kenneth and Shirley (Syhre) Ness. They later moved to Aberdeen, and Jack graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1967. After high school, he worked at H. C. Clark Implement, served as a foreman for the Aberdeen City Forestry Department for 33 years, and worked for the Brown County Landfill until his full retirement.

Jack was united in marriage to Nancy Schwandt on May 6, 1989, in Aberdeen. He loved hunting, fishing, and having his morning coffee wth his buddies at Ken’s.

Jack is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Aberdeen; mother, Shirley Syhre (Ness) of Aberdeen; brother, Terry Ness, of Aberdeen; sister, Fran Ness, of Mellette; sister, Cindy (Dave) Hagen of Aberdeen; sister-in-law, Deb (Don) Moser of Aberdeen; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Ness, and sister, Jill Ness.
