Joey L. Kusler


Joey Lou Kusler, 85, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 10, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen with her family by her side.
Joey Lou Jensen was born September 2, 1937, to Theodore and Helene (Schuman) Jensen in Aberdeen, SD. This is the area where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School with the class of 1955. Joey met Ernie at Elmer’s Grocery Store in Aberdeen and they were married on March 1, 1956. They enjoyed sixty-seven wonderful years together.
She started her first job at Chaffins Self Service store as a clerk. Joey was an amazing homemaker who always made special times for her children. She also enjoyed volunteering, she spent several years at New Beginnings and was referred to by the kids as “Grandma”. Joey was also involved with Hospice. She was a partner of Kusler’s Standard Service for over fifty years with her husband, Ernie. They had two beautiful children, Peggy and Randy.
Joey was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. She loved reading books, traveling, cooking, painting and shopping.
Grateful for having shared Joey’s life are her husband: Ernie Kusler; son, Randy (Sharon) Kusler, son-in-law, Glenn Wegehaupt, grandchildren, Nicholas (Abigail) Kusler, Amber Kusler, Robert (Melissa) Wegehaupt, Laura Wegehaupt, John (Chihiro) Wegehaupt and Michael Wegehaupt (Samantha Wollman), great-grandchildren, Hudson, Ranae, River, Mackenzie and Madison.
Preceding Joey in death are her daughter, Peggy Wegehaupt, parents, Theodore Jensen and Helene Wilcox, step-father, Leonard Wilcox.
