Harold Hoffman, 95, of Aberdeen, SD, died Tuesday, October 4, at Angelhaus in Aberdeen.

Harold J. Hoffman was born July 18, 1927, to Christian C. and Eva (Schock) Hoffman at Long Lake, SD. He grew up and attended grade school in the Long Lake area. Harold went into the U.S. Army in October 1945 and served in the Aleutian Islands at Adiak, Alaska and was honorably discharged June 1947. He returned to Long Lake and farmed with his parents.

On October 2, 1949, Harold was united in marriage to Hilda Goehring at Hope Lutheran Church near Leola, SD. They farmed five miles east of Long Lake. Harold attended the “Reisch Auction College” at Mason City, Iowa, and graduated March 1970. In July 1978 they moved to Aberdeen where Harold worked for the State Highway Department. Harold retired in June of 1992. Hilda passed away on November 16, 2020.

Harold was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. He was also a member of the American Legion, the VFW, RSVP, and the Aberdeen Area Senior Center. He did a lot of volunteer work over the years. Harold liked to fish, play cards and pool, and visit.

Grateful for having shared Harold’s life are his children: June Jorgenson and Bruce L. Hoffman; his grandchildren: Jason Jorgenson (Jodi Olson), Lindsay Johnson, and Shaun Harris; great-grandchildren: Jaden Jorgenson and Elley Harris; step grandchildren: Julie (Michael) Zakahi and Gary Jorgenson; and step great-grandchild: Braden Jorgenson.

Preceding Harold in death are his wife: Hilda Hoffman; his parents: Christ and Eva Hoffman; his sister: Marcella Weisz; four brothers: Ervin Hoffman, Alvin Hoffman, Ernest Hoffman, and Leo Hoffman; and his son-in-law: David Jorgenson.
