Gary Sieber, 87, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Gary L. Sieber was born on July 28, 1938, in Aberdeen, SD, to Walt and Myrtle (Vitense) Sieber.

Gary was raised in the Columbia area and graduated from Columbia High School in 1956. In 1959, he started working in highway construction until he entered the United States Army in 1961. He was honorably discharged in 1963 and returned home to Columbia, where he farmed with his brother and father.

On August 23, 1964, Gary married Karen Hart in Bonilla, SD. To this union, two children were born: Gayleen and Garrett.

Together, they moved to the Sieber family farm, where they farmed for many years. They later moved to Aberdeen, but Gary never fully retired from farming. He was still actively involved at the time of his death. Every year, he made sure to plant his own patch of sweet corn.

When Gary was not farming, he enjoyed playing pinnacle, racing his stock cars, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gary was a lifetime member of Roy L. Hall American Legion Post #58 of Columbia, where he served as past commander.

Grateful for having shared Gary’s life are his wife, Karen Sieber of Aberdeen; children, Gayleen (Jon) Voss of Groton, Garrett Sieber of Aberdeen; grandchildren: Lacy Voss, Jordan (Matt) Severson, and Gavin (Sophie) Voss; great-grandchildren: Mavrik Severson, Elleit Severson, and Quinnly Voss; one brother, Kenny (Patti) Sieber of Columbia.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Walt and Myrtle.
