Edwin "Ed" Bunke

Edwin ‘Ed’ Bunke, 84, of Westport, SD, died Friday, April 24, 2026, at Avera St. Lukes in Aberdeen, SD.

Edwin Robert Bunke was born on September 20, 1941, to Emil and Adeline (Dobrick) Bunke in Aberdeen, SD. He attended country school in rural Westport, SD, where he unknowingly met his future wife. He later went on to get his GED.

Edwin and Gloria Broadbent had known each other growing up, but a chance encounter reunited them, and they were married on New Years Eve 1996 in Aberdeen, SD.

A man of simple joy and pleasure; Ed was a true farmer at heart. He drove truck for a time with Winfield Solutions (now Agtegra), but his heart and passion was for his dairy farm and raising his Red Angus cattle. Ed also enjoyed the occasional pool game and his westerns. After Ed retired, he was known to begin his mornings with Deal or No Deal and The Price Is Right.

Grateful for having shared Ed’s life are his wife, Gloria Bunke; children, Grant (Dawn) Bunke and Natalie (Tony) Knox; stepchildren, Blane (Mary) Beilke, Gary (Angela) Beilke, Jason (Nikki) Bankston, and Jerald (Kathy) Bankston; grandchildren Samantha and Bryce Knox; and brother, Mark Bunke.

Preceding Ed in death are his parents, Emil and Adeline Bunke; sisters, LaVonne Bunke and Phyllis Schumack; brother, Gordon Bunke; and sister-in-law, Leona Bunke.
