Edna Prouse

Edna Prouse, 99, of Aberdeen, SD, died Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.

Edna Martha Brutsman was born June 26, 1926, in Aberdeen, SD, to Franklin and Lois (Simpson) Brutsman. She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1944 and continued her education at Stewarts School of Hair Styling in Sioux Falls, SD. Edna graduated from there and took a job at Alt’s Beauty Shoppe in Aberdeen.

On September 21, 1946, she married James L. Prouse in Webster, SD. Edna and James were blessed with seven children: Benjamin, Diana, Dale, Marcella, Nancy, and twins Bruce and Bradley.

She was a licensed day care provider for many years. Edna was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her flower garden, reading, and crocheting.

Grateful for having shared Edna’s life are her children: Diana Daly, Dale (Nancy) Prouse, Marcella (Stephen) Nordhus, Nancy (Bernard) Hilla, and Bradley Prouse; and eighteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren; and daughters-in-law Kathy Prouse and Dr. Diane Bottolfson.

Preceding Edna in death are her parents Franklin and Lois Brutsman, her husband James Prouse, children: Benjamin Prouse, Dr. Bruce Prouse, and daughter-in-law Wendy Prouse; and brothers Everett and Leonard.
