Diane M. Heupel

Diane M. Heupel, 70, of Aberdeen, SD, died Monday, August 21, 2023, at her home.

Diane Marie Axtman and twin brother David, were born December 11, 1952, to Paul & Katherine ‘Kay’ (McMillan) Axtman, in Aberdeen, SD. This is where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School with the class of 1971. On September 2, 1978, Diane married Allan Heupel, and two children were born to this marriage: Paula and Matt. Diane was a customer representative for NorthWestern Public Service, retiring after 36 years of service.

Diane loved life. Some of her favorite things were bowling, Bingo, Bunko, and craft shows, but fishing was her passion. She loved camping with family and friends at New Evarts Resort near the river where she enjoyed taking a cruise on her golf cart.

Diane was always ready to have a good time, sharing a beer with friends, and was the life of the party. She would do anything for you, was always cheerful, and found the best in everything. She ALWAYS had a smile on her face and her laughter was contagious and she often said, "there's never a dull moment when I'm around." Diane loved her kids and grandkids dearly; her family was her life.

Grateful for having shared Diane’s life are her husband of 45 years, Allan Heupel; children: Paula (Matt) Martin and Matt (Alicia) Heupel; grandchildren: Kayleigh, Brendan, and Brady Martin, and Ellie and Garran Heupel; brother Paul (Chris) Axtman; sisters-in-law: Kathy (Gil) Danz and Cindy Bosma; mother-in-law: Ruth Heupel; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding Diane in death are her parents: Paul and Kay Axtman; twin brother David Axtman; father-in-law: Walter Heupel; brothers-in-law: Gary Heupel and Arlen Heupel; grandparents: Matilda and James McMillan; aunt: Betty (Jay) Heinz; and uncle: Bud (Joan) McMillan.
