Dale Badten


Dale R. Badten, 85, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Mother Joseph Manor.
Dale was born November 15, 1938, in Seattle, Washington to John and Clara (Bugner) Badten. He was the youngest of four boys. As the family made their way to the mid-west they finally settled in Aberdeen when Dale was a teenager. Dale graduated from Barnard High School in 1956.
On January 9, 1958, Dale married Cleo Jean Kluck. To this union three children were born: Brad, Brian, Beckie. Dale and Cleo were also foster parents for many years and made the decision to adopt three siblings: Frank, Lance, and Lydia, so they would not be separated from each other.
Dale was a career optician beginning at the age of 18 and finally retiring in January of 2023, at the age of 84, from Vision Care Associates. He loved his extended work family. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and darts. He also enjoyed a beer or two, watching the Green Bay Packers and he made many trips to Montana to visit his daughter Beckie.
He is survived by his children; Brad Badten, Brian (Peggi) Badten, Beckie (Dennis) Portra, and Lance Badten; eight grandchildren: Kara, Tiffany, Ryan, Alaina, Tyler, LaRae, Brett, and Chelsea; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Dale in death are his parents, John and Clara Badten; wife, Cleo Badten; three brothers: Norb, Bud, and Harold; daughter-in-law, Linda Badten; children, Frank and Lydia; and grandchild, Shane Michael.
