Terrance “Terry” Albert Marko, 74, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away in Colorado Springs, Colorado, surrounded by his loving family on January 7, 2016, following a brief illness.

Terry Marko was born on March 20, 1941, in Aberdeen, SD, to the late Albert and Ila (Fitch) Marko. He was the oldest child of five and lived in Aberdeen his entire life. Terry married the love of his life, Lynda Erickson, on August 10, 1963. They raised three children and enjoyed more than 52 years together.

Terry loved being part of the Aberdeen construction community and working as a floor covering installer for more than half a century until he retired several years ago. Over the years, he completed numerous large tile construction projects in Aberdeen along with his son, Erik, with whom he worked closely for more than 20 years.

Terry proudly served in the Army reserve from 1959 to 1965 and even guarded JFK when JFK was a senator.

Deeply passionate about the outdoors, Terry enjoyed camping with his family and friends, as well as teaching his children Ken, Diane, and Erik, how to water ski. Fishing for perch from the boat was Terry’s favorite pastime, which he especially enjoyed with his son Erik and occasionally with his grandchildren. Terry also enjoyed hunting and was an avid bowler.

After Terry retired, meeting a group of friends for coffee at Malchow’s nearly every morning became a favorite part of his daily routine. He loved talking and spending time with his friends and colleagues in the construction community. Terry was also known to enjoy an occasional beer and card game with friends. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church as well as a member of the American Legion and Eagles Club.

Surviving him, and grateful for having shared his life, are his wife, Lynda, and three children, Ken Marko of Flower Mound, TX, Diane (Brad) Besmer of Colorado Springs, CO, and Erik (Michelle) Marko of Aberdeen, SD. Terry is also survived by his grandchildren Jamie (Bethany) Benson, Brianna Besmer, Jeremy Besmer, Kalyn Marko, Ryan Marko, Andrew Marko, Kaleigh Marko, and his step-grandchildren Taylor Schweitzer and Brittany Schweitzer, as well as his great-granddaughter Bari Jo Benson and step-great-grandson Ayden Moffenbier. Also surviving him are his sisters Linda Friest of Denver, CO, and Karen (Don) Dutenhoffer of Missoula, MT, and his brother, Gerald Marko of Apple Valley, MN, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition, Terry will be greatly missed by his dog and two cats who loved to keep him company while he watched television.

He was preceded in death by his youngest sister, Susan Marko, and his parents.
