Ron Koch, 73, of Aberdeen, SD, died Sunday, August 1, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.

Ron was born to Lloyd & Louise (Bingaman) Koch on December 8, 1947 in Ortonville, MN. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1966. Ron then attended Alexandria Area Technical School where he earned a certificate in Sales and Marketing. He enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was appointed to the Aerospace Team. Ron was stationed in Thailand and served his country from 1968-1972. After his honorable discharge he moved to Minneapolis, MN and started working for National Foods.

He married Vickie Moe on October 14, 1972 in Montevideo, MN. Ron and Vickie moved back to Montevideo, MN where they welcomed 2 daughters Alicia in 1976 and Katie in 1979. Ron was an Engineer with the Milwaukee Railroad until he transferred to Aberdeen, SD in 1982. Ron continued his career as an Engineer on the BNSF Railroad until his retirement in 2008.

Ron was passionate about many things, but his greatest passion was spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed cheering on his grandchildren at their various sporting events. He made it a point to stay connected with his friends, classmates, nephews, children, and grandchildren. Ron’s loyalty and generosity was felt by so many and a void will be left by those who knew him best and loved him most. Ron had many hobbies, but his main hobby was anything that had a motor and went fast. For many years, they traveled to the Corvette Rally where they made many great friends. He also enjoyed traveling to the Sturgis Rally before his health no longer allowed him to do so. He loved to research and renovate vehicles and never missed watching the Barrett Jackson and Mecum car auctions.

Grateful for having shared Ron’s life are his wife Vickie; two daughters, Alicia (Nate) Rife, Aberdeen, SD; Katie Skroch, Flandreau; 4 grandchildren, Oliver, Ameila, Liam, and Emmett, sister Ardell (Dan) Hasslen, Ortonville, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Ray Koch; and brothers, Larry and Jon.
