Marilyn Likness
Date of Birth: July 27, 1934
Died on: May 31, 2020

Marilyn Likness, a long time Langford resident, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen, SD at the age of 85.

Marilyn Ann Likness was born July 27, 1934 on a farm near Britton to Robert William and Gertie Elnora (Thompson) Schneider. She was baptized and later confirmed at English Lutheran Church in Britton. She graduated from high school in 1952 and worked at Dinger Studio and later at Marshall County Courthouse in Britton.

On April 3, 1955 Marilyn married Bernell Stanley Likness of Langford. They moved to Britton shortly after their marriage where their two children, Leonard and Becky were born.

In 1958, Marilyn moved with her family to Pierpont, SD, where she remained for the next 15 years. Marilyn worked at the local grain elevator and assisted with managing the Pierpont Cream Station. She and Bernell then co-owned the Jack and Jill grocery store in Pierpont for a couple years.  Sometime later, Marilyn was employed as a waitress at Hunters in Britton.

Marilyn and her family moved to a farm owned by Gertrude Schuller, located five miles southwest of Claremont, in August of 1972. There, Marilyn tended the family garden, raised livestock and assisted her husband, Bernell as needed on the farm.

In 1986, Marilyn and Bernell purchased a 5th-wheel camper and began wintering in southern Texas. They continued to do so for the next 18 years.

On September 23, 1993, Marilyn and Bernell held a farm auction and moved to Langford. They lived in their camper temporarily before moving into a house owned by their son, Leonard.

During her lifetime, Marilyn enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was particularly fond of her years on the Claremont farm, which she later recalled as some of the happiest of her life.

She is survived by a son, Leonard Likness of Langford; a daughter, Becky (Gary) Spinar of Faribault, MN; two siblings: Gerald (Dorthy) Schneider and Karen (Roger) St. Sauver; five grandchildren: Chad (Addison) Likness of Rogers, AR; Dustin Likness of Anaheim, CA; Michael (Angela) Spinar of Chesterton, IN; Jennifer Spinar of Faribault, MN; Kevin (Heather) Spinar of Shoreview, MN; and two great-grandsons, Benjamin Spinar and Easton Likness.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernell; her brother, Donald Schneider; and her sister, Darlene Planteen Johnson [Schneider].
