Lorraine Wasem, 92, of Aberdeen, SD, died Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Avera St. Luke’s in Aberdeen, SD.

Lorraine Keller was born March 9, 1929, to Wilhelm and Anna (Lang) Keller in Dodge, ND. She was the youngest of nine children. Her oldest sibling, Anna, was 20 years older than Lorraine. Her brother, Albert, always introduced her as the baby of the family, and she always got to eat dessert first.

She graduated from Dodge High School in 1947, with a class of six students. After receiving a teacher’s certificate from Dickenson State University, she taught rural school for two years before working for Klein Lumber Company in Bismarck, ND.

On November 11, 1950, Lorraine married William Wasem at the American Lutheran Church in Bismarck. In 1955, they moved from Bismarck to Aberdeen. To this union, four children were born. After her youngest started school, she went to go work part time for Dakota Farmer Magazine and Cargill Elevator. She enjoyed playing Bridge, Mahjong, line dancing, reading, fishing, gardening, knitting, and crocheting. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church for 60+ years where she made many prayer shawls.

Grateful for having shared Lorraine’s life are his children: Susan (Gilbert), Kallispell, MT, Cathy Wasem, Hawaii, Dean (Tammy) Wasem, Monument, CO, Dr. Carey Wasem (Dr. Tracey Montgomery, Zionsville, IN, sister-in-law, Theresa Wasem, and brother-in-law, Richard Mann.; grandchildren: Dr. Erin (Carl) Bissell, Andrew (Laura) Bissell, Katie (Eric) Bower, William McQuiston, Jeremy (Stacie) Wasem, Alisha (Steve) Schlosser, Rachel Wasem, Michael Wasem; great-grandchildren: Lucy Bissell, Pierre Bissell, Amelia Bower, Wesley Bower, Jagr Wasem, Ridgly Wasem, Zoya Schlosser, Lyzel Schlosser, and Venz Schlosser.

Preceding Lorraine in death are parents, husband, five brothers, three sisters, son-in-law, David McQuiston, and many nieces and nephews.
