Lela “Lea” Meirose, 91, of Aberdeen died February 28, 2019 at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

The youngest of five children, Lela “Lea” Fay Meirose, was born at the farm home of her parents, Gilbert and Effie (Otto) Alexander, in Antelope County, Neligh, NE on November 28, 1927.

At a young age, she moved with her family to Gordon, NE and then to a farm near Plainview, NE. She attended a one-room country school, Dist. 65, her first eight years and then a consolidated school, District 9, her first two years of high school. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1945, and from CE School of Commerce, Omaha, NE in 1946. She was then employed at Scott Manufacturing Co. and with Blue Cross-Blue Shield Ins. In Omaha.

On July 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to Lewis Meirose at Crawford Valley Methodist Church, Plainview, NE and became Mom to his six-year old daughter, Sandra.

They moved to Aberdeen, SD in 1949, where her husband was employed with NW Bell Telephone Co. She re-entered the work force in November of 1955, when she began employment with Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce and remained there until retiring in December of 1989.

She joined the First United Methodist Church in November 1951 and was a member of Ruth Circle. She received the Faithful Disciple Award in 2008.

In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and bike riding. She loved being with family and friends, enjoyed her home, and was an avid reader. Over the years, Lea was an avid Cornhusker football and basketball fan.

She will be dearly missed by those who shared her life and love, a grandson, who made his home with them and she raised as her own, Brad (Lynnette) Cotten of Watertown; granddaughter, Cindy Cotten of Sioux Falls; four great-grandchildren, Sara (Daren) Siefken of Aberdeen, Lona (Erik) Simon of Huron, Brian (Roxy) Cotten of Watertown and Ryan Cotten of San Francisco, CA; ten great-great-grandchildren, Brianna, Abbie, Sophie and Noah Siefken of Aberdeen, Kenleigh, Chapel, Declan and Ledger Simon of Huron and Brynn Lea and Braylee Jo Cotten of Watertown and three nieces and two nephews. Lea’s family were all very special to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lewis, (11-22-1998), daughter, Sandra, (10-13-2000), grandson, Warren (12-1-1988), three sisters, one brother, four brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, one niece and one nephew.
