Kelly Maack

Kelly Maack
Date of Birth: October 23, 1958
Died on: August 29, 2020

Kelly Maack, 61, of Watertown died August 29, 2020 at Prairie Lakes Healthcare System in Watertown.

Kelly was born October 23, 1958 to Edward and Olga (Zambo) Maack in Aberdeen. He grew up in Aberdeen attending school. He had wanted to make auto repair his career, unfortunately his health did not allow that. He began having health issues at the age of 22. He went through peaks and valleys throughout the rest of his life.

Kelly remained living at home with his parents. His father died in 1988 and he continued to live at home with health issues sharing and caring for his mother. When his health worsened, he moved to Watertown to live with his sister and her family. He provided childcare for his niece and nephew in Watertown and became a very important part of their lives. His mother’s health declined, and she subsequently moved to the Watertown household living with Kelly and his sister’s family. Although Kelly had medical issues he monitored and cared for his mother in his sister’s home until his mother died in 2016. As his health allowed, he became a very important person in his nieces’ boys’ lives. He enjoyed them as much as they enjoyed spending time with him. He never said “no” to them.

Kelly started dialysis at an early age. After some years he received a kidney transplant and some years later began having heart issues. The kidney ceased functioning and he returned to dialysis continuing to have heart and other health issues. Kelly finally had a good summer this year. He was able to go lake fishing a couple of times. He went on a few short road trips with his brother, drove the golf cart occasionally to the garden and was able to take his beloved cat outside briefly.

During all the 40 years, Kelly never once said “why me”. Throughout all his years he just took what life dealt him and never ever complained. The one item he wanted during his life was a Dodge Challenger Hellcat, unfortunately that did not happen. We should all take note of what we have been given, be thankful and make the best of our lives. Life is short – make the best of it.

Kelly is sadly missed by his siblings. Those surviving him are Judy (Wallace) Dahl and Chester Maack, both of Watertown; Carl (Mary) Maack and Tammy Maack, both of Aberdeen; and special niece, Shannon (Marty) Stemwedel and boys, Carter, and Ty of Watertown. He is also survived by Densley Zambo, uncle, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Kelly was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Christopher Maack.
