Judith ‘Judy’ Jarvis, 84, of Aberdeen, SD, died Wednesday, November 6, at her home in Aberdeen.

Judith Ione Weisz was born May 15, 1935, to Henry and Ella (Blumhardt) Weisz on the family farm near Roscoe, SD. When she was young, her family moved to a farm north of Bowdle. This is the area where she grew up and attended school.

On November 15, 1953, Judy was united in marriage to Robert Jarvis in Bowdle, SD. They moved to Mobridge, SD, in 1954. In 1966, they moved to Aberdeen. Judy sold Amway for a time and worked at Control Data. She was a hard worker and seldom took time off.

In December of 1976, Judy married Edmund Zelmer in Aberdeen. They made their home in Long Lake, SD, and in 1977, moved to a farm near Long Lake. In 1989, Judy moved back to Aberdeen. She spent a year in Visalia, CA with her daughter, Janell, but returned to Aberdeen after that. Judy worked for Avera St. Luke’s Hospital until retiring in 2005.

Judy was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church which she loved cleaning and attending. Judy enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. Playing cards at the Aberdeen Area Senior Center was a favorite pastime of hers. She was always a hard worker and kept an immaculate yard. Judy liked to bake and cook for others, especially German dishes. After retiring, she went on several bus tour trips and got to see much of the United States. Judy loved spending time with her family, friends and she cherished her dog, Daisy. Her family will remember her caring and compassionate ways.

Grateful for having shared Judy’s life are her children: Janell (Carl) Stark, Los Angeles, CA, and Brian Jarvis (Annette Fischer), Aberdeen; her grandchildren: Cameron Jarvis, Lindsey Jarvis (Max Lee); step-grandchildren: David (Sonya) Stark, Marisa (Bryan) Marra, Jennifer Haddad, and Rebecca (Justin) Mattei; step-great-grandchildren: Samantha, Jared, Morgan, Anthony, Owen, Emerson, Henry, Olive and Julian; her siblings: Allen (Sharon Rae) Weisz, Sunset, LA, Carol (Lester) Aman, Hosmer, SD, and Connie (Terry) Hull, Aberdeen, SD; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Preceding Judy in death are her parents, two infant sons: Steven and Loren Jarvis; a child lost to a miscarriage; both of her husbands; and her daughter-in-law: Tammy Jarvis.
