Janice K. Kraft

Janice K. Kraft
Date of Birth: December 01, 1951
Died on: December 26, 2016

Janice K. Kraft, 65, of Aberdeen and formerly of McLaughlin died December 26, 2016 at her home with her family at her side.

Janice Kay Wingerter, daughter of Peter and Ruth (Schmeichel) Wingerter was born December 1, 1951 at McLaughlin, SD. She graduated from Selfridge High School with the class of 1969. She attended Mary College, graduating in May of 1971 from St. Joseph’s School of Practical Nursing in Dickinson, ND.

Janice was united in marriage to Daniel Lee Kraft on September 8, 1973 in St. Philomena Catholic Church at Selfridge, SD. Janice started her nursing career at Mobridge Hospital, later working at McLaughlin Hospital and Clinic for many years. She then became employed with the McLaughlin Public School as the nurse, cook and teacher’s aide.

Janice loved gardening, canning and drinking coffee and wine with friends and of course shopping. She was very talented with crafts and decorating. She loved all the little children and after church each one got a piece of candy where they would find her at the organ and give her a big hug. Janice was known for her generosity in making Christmas trays of goodies and giving them away for all to enjoy. Janice had a large collection of cookbooks. She always made sure everyone was well fed and was the best cook, baker and housekeeper. She made the best birthday cakes and many had the pleasure of having one made for them.

Janice took extra loving care of her son, Brent, whom had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He was her life and she was his. Janice played piano and organ at her church for 50 plus years. She loved music and people and was very devoted to her Catholic faith and was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Christmas was her favorite season, along with Christmas decorations. She made Christmas very special in her home for her family. She always said she could open up a store and celebrate the birth of Jesus all year long. If Janice could have picked a season to go to Heaven, this was it. Christmas will always mean so much more now knowing we have an angel looking over us. We will miss her and our hearts are broken but she is with the Lord and she has her wings. She will be loved forever.

Her husband Dan, died March 28, 2016 and Janice sold her house in McLaughlin and moved to Aberdeen on October 22, 2016 to their dream home that Dan and she built to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law, but her heart was still in McLaughlin where all her life-long friends are.

Grateful for having shared Janice’s life are her daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Todd Sahli of Aberdeen; twin sister, JoAnn (Allen) Blotske of Bismarck; mother-in-law, Ruth Kraft of Piedmont, SD and sister-in-law, Cheryl Wingerter of Ridgefield, WA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dan (3-28-16), son, Brent (10-24-07), brother, Roger (2-29-16) and infant twin sisters, Mary Ann and Julie Ann.
