Hurley Gellhaus, 88, of Aberdeen, SD, died Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen, SD. A private service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Hurley was born September 11, 1932, to Julia Ragatz Gellhaus and Henry Gellhaus at Frankfort, SD. He went to grade school and graduated high school in Frankfort. During high school, he worked in his father’s grocery store. Hurley served his country from 1952 to 1954 in Korea. He was very proud of his Korean war medal, presented to him by Senator John Thune. He was also proud of his army shirt that Shirley decorated with his medals. Hurley was part owner of Four Brothers Market along with his three brothers. They retired and sold the business in the late 80’s. Hurley loved to play whist with the guys, but his biggest enjoyment was dancing with Shirley. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Elks, and the American Legion.

Grateful for having shared Hurley’s life are his wife of 65 years, Shirley Gellhaus; daughter Debra (Brian) Scappaticci; sons: Mark (Barbara) Gellhaus and David (Lori) Gellhaus; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and sister Bonnie Loken.

Preceding Hurley in death are his parents, Henry and Julia Ragatz Gellhaus; son Dean Gellhaus; brothers Harvey, Ken and Glenn and sisters Leona and Verna.
