Harold “Pete” N. Peterson, 90, Aberdeen, died Saturday, January 2 at Bethesda Home, Aberdeen.

Harold was born April 2, 1925 to Nels and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Bivens) Peterson near Makoti, North Dakota.

He grew up on a farm and attended high school in Makoti. He entered the Navy in 1943 and served until 1946 as a tail gunner on a Martin Mariner, air-sea rescue in the Pacific Ocean.

After his military services years, he worked for Red Owl grocery stores in Crosby and Minot, ND as a meat cutter. In the mid 1950’s he went to work as a meat manager for Piggly Wiggly grocery stores in Minot and Fargo. He moved to Bismarck, where he began his work as a meat supervisor for Nash Finch Grocery Stores. He moved to Aberdeen in 1964 and continued this work for Nash Finch serving grocery stores in the western Dakotas. He moved to Frederick in 1976 and then back to Aberdeen in 1986.

After he retired he worked as a meat cutter for numerous stores in Aberdeen and Frederick.

He married Bernice Zimmerman in April 1947. They had two sons, Terry and Tim. In 1975 he married Marcia Taskerud in Frederick, SD. In 1995 he married LaVonne Jensen in Aberdeen.

He enjoyed traveling across the country, the Aberdeen Friendship Singers, and visiting with friends and family. Harold served on the church council of Zion Lutheran Church and in many other capacities. He was proud of his military service during World War II and enjoyed his trip to Washington, DC for the Honor Flight.

Harold is survived by his wife, LaVonne; his sons: Terry (Sandra) of Rapid City, SD, and Tim (Sharlene) of Spearfish, SD; 6 grandchildren: Ryan Peterson, Nicole Kachelmyer, Sarah Vigoren, Megan Lackey, Bill Peterson, and Christine Peterson; 11 great-grandchildren: step children: Margaret (John) Sumption, Marlene (Ken) McGaughey, Michael (Carol) Jensen, Marty (Val) Jensen; 16 step-grandchildren and numerous step-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Betty Troite.

Harold is preceded in death by his father, Nels; his mother, Bessie; three brothers: Paul, Allen, and Bernard; and his wife Marcia.
