Florence Layton, 86, of Aberdeen, SD, died Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at Angelhaus in Aberdeen, SD where she had resided over the last four years.

Florence was born on June 2, 1934 at Roscoe, SD, to John and Leotina (Alice) Roth. This is the area where she was raised and attended grade school. The John Roth family moved to Aberdeen, SD, in the fall of 1951.

Florence started working for the National Tea Grocery Store in the fall of 1951 at the age of seventeen. She was employed at National Tea for six years when she decided to move to California to be near other relatives. Florence worked for several large grocery chains in California before she retired.

Florence was united in marriage to Arlo A. Layton on May 14, 1957 at St. Jarlath’s Catholic Church in Oakland, CA. They made their home in Lodi, CA until they both retired in 1989. In 1998 they moved back to Aberdeen to be closer to friends and relatives.

Florence enjoyed traveling to selected states very much, especially going to Arizona during the winter months to visit family. She also loved dancing and festivities, along with western music and celebrities. Florence was a polite, accommodating, and respected woman. She was admired and happy, always smiling.

Grateful for having shared Florence’s life are her husband Arlo A. Layton; brothers Henry (Narcessia) Roth, Victorville, CA, and John (Bernet) Roth, Banning, CA.

Preceding Florence in death are her parents: John & Leotina (Alice) Roth; brother Roy Roth; sisters Ann Artz, Irene Aipperspach, and Alice Rempher.
