Elsie Jane Kaul, 92, of Aberdeen, SD, died Monday, May 14, at ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen.

Elsie Jane Bauman was born July 9, 1925, to Fredrick and Bertha (Loss) Bauman at Yucca, ND. She graduated from Beulah High School and attended nursing school at Beulah-Hazen Hospital and also in Greeneville, Tennessee. She traveled extensively while working as a nurse in North Dakota, South Dakota, Chicago, Tennessee, and Utah.

She married Wilhelm (Bill) Kaul at Hosmer, SD, on June 6, 1948, before shortly moving to Aberdeen. Prior to retirement in 1987, she worked at St. Luke’s and Dakota Midland Hospitals.

Elsie loved music, particularly classical music, and enjoyed community concerts as well as theater. Always concerned about animals in need, she donated to several animal charities. Her other interests and hobbies included stamp collecting, sewing, reading, gardening, and travel of which the personal highlight was her trip to Australia.

In addition to her love and dedication to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she also participated lovingly in the lives of her nieces and nephews who called her their second mom.

The family is so very grateful to the care givers at Avera Home Health/Hospice and ManorCare Health Services for their dedicated attention and loving care.

The family prefers memorials to Aberdeen Area Humane Society or Avera Home Health/ Hospice.

Grateful for having shared Elsie’s life are her children: Susan (Don) Rose, Aberdeen, JoAnne (Mark) Szymanski, McKinney, TX, Carol (Glenn) Nichols, Loudon, TN; grandchildren: Joanna (Dan) Goetz, Andrea Rose-Prehn, Laura (Chris) Mason, Mary Nichols and Jon (Erin) Nichols; great-grand-children: Ethan, Olivia, Gabe, Maxwell, Anderson, Makenna, Davis and Nyla; and one brother, Wilbert Bauman.

Preceding Elsie in death are her husband, Bill Kaul (January 6, 2004) parents, Fredrick and Bertha Bauman, sisters: Dorothy Miller, Gladys Ford, June Dietrich, Irene Olson and one brother, Fredrick Bauman.
