James ‘Jim’ Resmen, Jr., 58, of Aberdeen, SD, died Wednesday, August 26, at Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls, SD.

James R. Resmen was born June 24, 1962, to James and Carol (Olson) Resmen in Clear Lake, SD. He grew up on the family farm near Brandt, SD, where he found his love for the outdoors that continued throughout his life. Jim attended grade school in Astoria, SD, and then attended Hendricks High School, graduating in 1980. He went on to SDSU, graduating in 1985 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked his way through college by helping Milt Sorenson on his farm. In 1988, he started work as an electrician and lineman for HD Electric in Clear Lake, SD. Jim later became a systems engineer for the company.

On October 28, 1994, Jim was united in marriage to Linda Siegfried in Watertown, SD. They moved to Huron, SD, in 2008, where Jim worked for NorthWestern Energy as an electrical engineer. In 2011, they moved to Aberdeen and Jim worked for FEM Electric in Ipswich, SD. Jim and Linda moved to Lake Mina in 2015, and then moved back to Aberdeen in July of 2020.

Jim was a member of Aberdeen First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of South Dakota Electrical Commission and past member of Ducks Unlimited. Jim loved to work with tools and was a very talented handyman that could fix just about anything. He also loved fishing, hiking, and going out on the pontoon. Jim passed down his love for craftsmanship and the outdoors to his grandsons. He was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. Jim was a true family man and took many vacations with his family including several trips to Disney World. In 2016, the family took all of the grandchildren to Disney World. The highlight of his life was spending time with his children and grandchildren and following them in their sports. Jim was a very patient man, an optimist, and a kind a gentle soul. He will be remembered for always having a smile on his face and a friendly hello.

Grateful for having shared Jim’s life are his wife: Linda Resmen; his children: Amber (Eric) Borge, Kory (Megan) Pickrel, and Dustin (Brynn) Pickrel, all of Aberdeen; his grandchildren: Karson, Kamdyn, Kannon and Korbin Borge, Bentley, Carter and Leighton Pickrel, and Grayson and Lawson Pickrel; his parents: James and Carol Resmen; Brandt, SD; his siblings: Bernie (Robert) Olsen, rural Canby, SD, Kent (Kristy) Resmen, Brookings, SD, Wayne (Kaylene) Resmen, Brookings, SD, and Al (Wendy) Resmen, Litchfield, MN, his father and mother-in-law: Harlan and Marilyn Siegfried, Watertown, SD; two sisters-in-law: Brenda (Thom) Burke, Port Orchard, WA, and Renea (Steve) Parks, Apple Valley, MN; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Preceding Jim in death are his paternal grandparents: Fred and Frances Resmen; his maternal grandparents: Oscar and Stella Olson; one nephew: Brook Brown; and his good friend: Milton Sorenson.
