Eldon Beckler, 97, of Aberdeen, SD, died Tuesday, May 8, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Eldon Beckler was born on March 26, 1921, to Nathaniel and Laura (Runte) Beckler in Aberdeen. He grew up on a farm between Aberdeen and Bath and graduated from Bath High School in 1939. Following graduation, Eldon was a diversified livestock and grain farmer in the Bath area.

Growing up, Eldon was very active in 4-H, winning several trips including to the National 4-H Congress in Chicago. Once he was no longer a member, he continued helping with 4-H for many years.

He was an active member of the First United Methodist, serving as an usher for over 40 years and spending many years on the official board. He was a South Dakota Wheat Growers delegate for many years. He was also an ASCS committee member for Brown County. Eldon was also a life member of the Elks Club, joining in 1944. He belonged to the Aberdeen Bird and Wildflower Club and to the Aberdeen Garden Club. Eldon was especially talented at growing roses.

Eldon’s family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Bethesda Home of Aberdeen, Avera Palliative Care and Avera@Home Hospice for their loving care of Eldon.

Grateful for having shared Eldon’s life are his children: Jerry (Cheryl) Beckler, Sioux Falls, SD, and LuAnn (Bruce) Abler, Cypress, CA; his grandchildren: Tim (Carrie) Beckler, Angie Beckler and Steven (Ruth) Beckler; great-grandchildren: William Beckler, Luke Beckler and Noah Becker; his sister-in-law, Elnor Beckler; and his good friend, Arnie Banik.

Preceding Eldon in death are his wife: Lois Beckler; his parents: Nathaniel and Laura Beckler; his siblings: Ruth Howell, Everett Beckler, Myles ‘Mike’ Beckler and Harold Beckler; and one grandson.
